Understanding your Credit Score & Report

Profile Information

Your name, address and date of birth can be found here. Previous addresses, useful addresses and lengths of residency are also listed.

Electoral Roll Information

Anyone applying for credit should be on the electoral roll. That information, which includes your name, address and local authority, is listed in this part of the credit report.

Aliases

People often use different names when applying for credit, including using an initialised middle name rather than writing out the whole name and name changes following a marriage or divorce. Known aliases are found here.

Financial Associations

This part of the credit report details any financial associations you have made with other people, such as making a joint account or making a joint application on a loan.

Public Record Information

Information in regard to financial decisions such as IVAs, CCJs and bankruptcies will be found in this section.

Account Information

This very detailed part of your credit report offers specifics for loans or credit agreements that you have made. Information found here includes the name of the lender, the current balance of the loan and payment history (including defaulted payments).

Previous Searches

This is the "footprint" part of your credit report, where lenders you have contacted have accessed your details and in return their specifics are left here. Too many searches in a short period are usually a bad sign for a potential lender.

Linked Addresses

If you have applied for credit from a different address to your main address, then those addresses will be listed in this section of the report.

CIFAs

CIFAS (originally "Credit Industry Fraud Avoidance Service") is an agency that aims to protect consumers from credit fraud. Any information you have registered with them will be mentioned here.

GAIN

GAIN (Gone Away Information Network) will show if you have moved address and not informed any creditors, especially if you have not kept up with repayments.
